HOWEVER.......we are having problems with Canada immigration. There will be no crossing into Canada until we get this mess figured out. Time for some serious decisions. No Canada? Cold Weather? Another winter in the Pacific Northwest? Maybe Not !!!~ Nick ~ Becky ~http://www.blogger.com/profile/16256332674620416125noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1217059312754436448.post-16873528718553036112010-05-15T14:36:00.000-07:002011-11-13T14:40:08.175-08:00Back in Seattle. Jim and Sonya on a plane headed back to Las Vegas. Its time to put Freyja up for the summer and head back to West Yellowstone to get ready for another season of serving the traveling public. Their flights were made and we needed to make it to Sidney BC to meet them. Our weather was a bit unpredictable and we were not sure which day to try and do the Strait of Georgia. Heading south was very nice and there were weather windows almost everyday so crossing didn't seem to be an issue. HOWEVER......once we arrived in Secret Cove the wind started blowing and blowing. The weather said a good window early in the morning so we tied tight, fixed dinner and hunkered down with a good book. Cast off lines bright and early and headed for the Strait. Somehow we had missed the window and the wind and waves were not in our favor. We poked out a bit further but decided this was not our day for crossing. Headed back followed by two other bigger boats that also felt waiting was better. Two days of strong howling winds and rain and most everything Mother Nature had to offer came our way. Our next planned departure went well and crossing was a bit rough but certainly nothing to worry about. We arrived in Sidney with enough time to spray off the boat and buy groceries. </div><br /><br /><div>With the weather on our side we spent time in Montegue Harbor, Ganges for a couple of days because it was the first farmers market/craft fair of the year. You know Sonya and a craft fair. What an awesome time we had. On to Nanaimo and since the weather was perfect we crossed the Strait to Vancouver for a few days. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYnyegumWTSmpV12Nr2kKYMtEg_UbJ7_PGkrDvvRR0j8-4zRAXT66XspAx0QqZ9UQQQphh5Q6x_wN1Bo79Jm7E7q_2BnYepyGKr58lVqEoW5-Msi3nICH54yriqsWljOOffPLRjY5DMAw/s1600/Jim+%26+Sonya+April+2010+053.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 270px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 209px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482092429323888514" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYnyegumWTSmpV12Nr2kKYMtEg_UbJ7_PGkrDvvRR0j8-4zRAXT66XspAx0QqZ9UQQQphh5Q6x_wN1Bo79Jm7E7q_2BnYepyGKr58lVqEoW5-Msi3nICH54yriqsWljOOffPLRjY5DMAw/s320/Jim+%26+Sonya+April+2010+053.jpg" /></a>We visited the Farmers Market, China Town where we had some good Dim Sum with the locals. The window had gone away and as we turned around to head back there were several boats also looking for shelter. We spent two more nights in the well protected Secret Cove, but still the winds reached over 80 knots. April 3rd we poked out and headed to Nanaimo in very mixed up seas. Wind was less than 10 knots and the sun was shining. Took about 3 1/2 hours to cross the Strait of Georgia. This is big water for us. We crossed here in January on the way back from Chatterbox Falls. The waves then were over six foot ~ today we had a ripple on the water. One night in Secret Cove where we caught one crab. We definately are not getting full of crab at this rate.</span> </div><div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl0PrwG6fg7RBNWq4TS2uf5piDDl8fLU82ukOa-qgI8-sLEJbpYZQACiqzLEvvcTOjNxHGkNWrQ00hV2kMxW9BbBiRIEPWw_zQ5_i6sTZFlf1QHVNrz-Zxjh4J5YeOozooargB73GqjhQ/s1600-h/Desolation+Sound+(+Westview-Refuge+Cove)+010.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 200px; HEIGHT: 134px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5451575049906572034" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl0PrwG6fg7RBNWq4TS2uf5piDDl8fLU82ukOa-qgI8-sLEJbpYZQACiqzLEvvcTOjNxHGkNWrQ00hV2kMxW9BbBiRIEPWw_zQ5_i6sTZFlf1QHVNrz-Zxjh4J5YeOozooargB73GqjhQ/s200/Desolation+Sound+(+Westview-Refuge+Cove)+010.jpg" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz92hFBRtHB0YNquASkAHqn-SW4SYnWh84CZy8MzblX7J4v7KWzhN2G-4Hxkn9BFvANetjF_yxMMB9MNnO3qlvjiHohb2mG4K4Gm9wGFrEznyVMeNdSLl8ekFffiChoj8Pibs2Ljv14HU/s1600-h/Desolation+Sound+(+Westview-Refuge+Cove)+011.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 203px; HEIGHT: 134px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5451576078060478178" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz92hFBRtHB0YNquASkAHqn-SW4SYnWh84CZy8MzblX7J4v7KWzhN2G-4Hxkn9BFvANetjF_yxMMB9MNnO3qlvjiHohb2mG4K4Gm9wGFrEznyVMeNdSLl8ekFffiChoj8Pibs2Ljv14HU/s200/Desolation+Sound+(+Westview-Refuge+Cove)+011.jpg" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZvyqtENta-Mk9h6VCmwjtb2P4PonP-mEii2p3sSxqI_6PQhWpM3jf0FmiRskjcXt5b6QLtz22710g0JfKecRrOAX3AUqRdRuV10PGTbeS1gOFJLHJa-jtToqmrJUohTMNIz9lrutriMg/s1600-h/Desolation+Sound+(+Westview-Refuge+Cove)+014.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 200px; HEIGHT: 134px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5451585551503324418" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZvyqtENta-Mk9h6VCmwjtb2P4PonP-mEii2p3sSxqI_6PQhWpM3jf0FmiRskjcXt5b6QLtz22710g0JfKecRrOAX3AUqRdRuV10PGTbeS1gOFJLHJa-jtToqmrJUohTMNIz9lrutriMg/s200/Desolation+Sound+(+Westview-Refuge+Cove)+014.jpg" /></a></div><div><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;">We ducked into Powell River for two nights as the weather was calling for 30-40 knot winds. We are wondering in the Gulf Islands while the weather remains windy and unsettled. When the weather is calling for gale force winds its tuff to "head to sea". So we have enjoyed what this area has to offer and settled in to a much slower style where the big decision of the day is "do you want to play cribbage or farkle"? <img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 134px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449798191917217922" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd174B8LIMGNUn7FTN6lLhqB3ZQtczZH1sAUFDX0pF2S6rtqz85Gr1bjvO41Unnci1RbOJsJ2gzkBPuRvBC27JylYAaD0ek5EURRxok_p-CGOKLCdWFvhxCpUeYELccwxxLBX18rxIRHA/s200/Montegue-Sidney-Ganges+March+2010+011.jpg" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 134px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449799402183736482" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9jYOnQiFR6IZ-pLX-Xo9nOf6MREQhF96TRF2KkStjvr-OMYckC-iAL6tjyRedg4OUhl_zdLfkpAz4FX3oubhVxyF5tzTXnRyD3Wnb4RT5ANgfILg9wslb7m47k6CnDwpCgZdXMLv76Og/s200/Montegue-Sidney-Ganges+March+2010+008.jpg" /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjoAdCuZ3QBh98_DDVhLXX4zqxrB4tya36a_opXRJD-Oh5DUTBO8gm1XUNhRfJzcZ9ueNsv7CAi8JMWX9VE3_-GfZ8ozCfE_BI1QqGAaOPIyA5JGQhEhfBlo91HIXLapnsxLJkKmvwAwg/s1600-h/Montegue-Sidney-Ganges+March+2010+001.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 134px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449797785071487234" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjoAdCuZ3QBh98_DDVhLXX4zqxrB4tya36a_opXRJD-Oh5DUTBO8gm1XUNhRfJzcZ9ueNsv7CAi8JMWX9VE3_-GfZ8ozCfE_BI1QqGAaOPIyA5JGQhEhfBlo91HIXLapnsxLJkKmvwAwg/s200/Montegue-Sidney-Ganges+March+2010+001.jpg" /></a> The marine life is so interesting. The stars are purple, orange and pink. The seals are everywhere. We have tried to crab. We would starve if we had to feed the family with our crabbing ability. The small marinas are very laid back and quaint. Yes, the wind blows and the waves roll the boat. There have been some interesting times where we are moored out and the weather turns real bad. Sleeping in the pilot house with all the alarms set is not our idea of the perfect quiet evening. Our trip went as far north as Friday Harbor and thru the San Juans, Sucia Island, La Connor and south to Port Orchard for dinner with long time friends of Dan and Nancy. With urging ~ I ask the Coast Guard cutter Terapin if we could moor on their bouy. "Negative" was the answer so we tried our hand at the Clark Island bouy. What a beautiful spot and everyone slept well despite the giggles from the top bunk when a wave came by. You could not have ask for better weather. Dan was in charge of "log watch" and saved our Freyja many time. We only had one "smack" and we all still wonder how that happened.</div><div></div><div>Put Dan and Nancy on a plane and picked up brother in law Del for help with computer and radar. Thank You Thank You.</div><div></div><div>We have only two months left and are headed north. New computers that are made with lots of thought about how they are to be used. Solid state drives with all the buttons in all the right places. However, they are computers, but being Del ~ things had to be perfect ~ and finally they are. Two new GPS units and we are good to go. (Merry Christmas Nick and Becky from Mom & Dad) However, as we continued to work on the computers it was getting closer to Christmas and Mr. Belyea had to fly standby. Luckly the Gods were with us and he was able to catch a flight back to Salt Lake the day before Christmas. Christmas was quiet for us again this year and the boat parade on Lake Union was much smaller than last year. We are making final preparation for our awaited trip North into Canada, Princess Louisa and Chatterbox Falls. </em><br /><br /><em><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3gu4hhffdiTTT9Zrq7-rus1H8IbI9yzes5ieC056FB7oMKEwH1qDJdf85__V6d85LrbqtSu-beMsGU2mXHDN25T86ABgZMtfzsZt-mNHAY5EdXfIy6TIEV1yiXxeoJhBTSl7ypHkWF2E/s1600-h/Chatterbox+Falls+Trip+Nick+12-26-09+to+01-16-10+140.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 200px; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5427526038707699730" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3gu4hhffdiTTT9Zrq7-rus1H8IbI9yzes5ieC056FB7oMKEwH1qDJdf85__V6d85LrbqtSu-beMsGU2mXHDN25T86ABgZMtfzsZt-mNHAY5EdXfIy6TIEV1yiXxeoJhBTSl7ypHkWF2E/s200/Chatterbox+Falls+Trip+Nick+12-26-09+to+01-16-10+140.jpg" /></a> Z Worthy ~ 48 Selene Ron & Bonny</em><br /><em><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZH84K9aKjCyHw9KAq5DniPiVmgg6z8nuqQB8dPCdR5EPsRtq3P2vkAQR_WVvMpOEqDeTUjx8GllkGuYVVV316bNFiFDmcOAqbf4Q3IK-K5dqbhSe0qW_U9a2MnvWiq1C60llnpFgO-sM/s1600-h/Secret+Cove+to+Chatterbox+Falls+110.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 200px; HEIGHT: 134px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5427531584497814914" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZH84K9aKjCyHw9KAq5DniPiVmgg6z8nuqQB8dPCdR5EPsRtq3P2vkAQR_WVvMpOEqDeTUjx8GllkGuYVVV316bNFiFDmcOAqbf4Q3IK-K5dqbhSe0qW_U9a2MnvWiq1C60llnpFgO-sM/s200/Secret+Cove+to+Chatterbox+Falls+110.jpg" /></a></em><span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="color:#330033;"><span style="color:#330033;">Wild Blue ~ 53 Selene Alex & Pat</span></span></span><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="color:#330033;"><span style="color:#330033;"><br /></span></span></span><em><strong><span style="color:#330099;">We leave just after Christmas with Ron & Bonny Zuckerman in Z-Worthy. One of our favorite cities. Cleared customs into Canada at Vancouver and we were a bit worried that they were going to keep Becky. The customs officials kept us at the customs dock for about 1 1/2 hours insisting that somewhere in the past we had been denied access into Canada. Z-Worthy waited patiently and eventually we headed into False Creek to find our Marina. Ron had made prior arrangements for us at Quayside Marina and the accomodations were perfect. We spent the next four days in Vancouver visiting Grandville Island, going to the movie (big deal for us) taking the train and the bus (bigger deal for us) going to the British Columbia University Museum of Anthropology to see the giant towering totems from the Haida, Oweekeno and other First Nations. </span></strong></em><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjva-ghMT4y4KchyuzU262QYpp5SETbtNqCpUVKi50FoNSwPasT_XyJ2-VR6AFRRwyuk3bUveF3PArxRjXf9kzy2mKKxM0c6b0Xf_uHQMxEMB22_vdFid_5PEpMM5MiVAMy8nlj_a7y9-g/s1600-h/Vancouver+to+Secret+Cove+028.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 200px; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5427505322432282034" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjva-ghMT4y4KchyuzU262QYpp5SETbtNqCpUVKi50FoNSwPasT_XyJ2-VR6AFRRwyuk3bUveF3PArxRjXf9kzy2mKKxM0c6b0Xf_uHQMxEMB22_vdFid_5PEpMM5MiVAMy8nlj_a7y9-g/s200/Vancouver+to+Secret+Cove+028.jpg" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcYA9G_wBOquQ-EXInhTS9AmW7jCQDexrbo3Q0Nk8QalMjxSUFx2z2wsKacsDtpijZUtvAExQBItjlH7jm-1ktZ99u8ZK93HxVPLMAbVIZz0aMGvxnhVZ1pY-gprRxX84phFKaczcojwE/s1600-h/Secret+Cove+to+Chatterbox+Falls+069.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 166px; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5427503919888337250" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcYA9G_wBOquQ-EXInhTS9AmW7jCQDexrbo3Q0Nk8QalMjxSUFx2z2wsKacsDtpijZUtvAExQBItjlH7jm-1ktZ99u8ZK93HxVPLMAbVIZz0aMGvxnhVZ1pY-gprRxX84phFKaczcojwE/s200/Secret+Cove+to+Chatterbox+Falls+069.jpg" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7_2gbQ8lRuEDPFPE0JDJT1a0_Vj4N6fRvXP1Uz7ERKu_QAzsUezNC7sa0jIhQYUZXfksYAVXuN1dgmUJmsUPLRsvVTStgFjRD1kh_EbjXobp-jfSYhYbOdSXmtSKN2qOydoqPl4EJNvU/s1600-h/Vancouver+to+Secret+Cove+022.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 200px; HEIGHT: 151px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5427505674530163730" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7_2gbQ8lRuEDPFPE0JDJT1a0_Vj4N6fRvXP1Uz7ERKu_QAzsUezNC7sa0jIhQYUZXfksYAVXuN1dgmUJmsUPLRsvVTStgFjRD1kh_EbjXobp-jfSYhYbOdSXmtSKN2qOydoqPl4EJNvU/s200/Vancouver+to+Secret+Cove+022.jpg" /></a><br /><strong><span style="color:#006600;">The leaders of "our trip north" Alex and Pat Benson in "Wild Blue" met us in Vancouver. Daybreak departure went smoothly. It's very misty with some rain and fog. As we enter the channel its amazing what you run into. An error in calculation and our determination not to be late makes our arrival at Malibu Rapids almost three hours prior to slack. We had to hang out in the channel. But what a place to hang out. There is snow on the mountains and the waterfalls are everywhere. There were several times when it was not very comfortable but Freyja never waivered and we pressed on thru the Strait of Georgia to Nanimo.</span></em></strong><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfQ38BcE9CLF1Fia5Wnwa4SdrbEBZx_O3u8X6LkD3FZRP7OD0r2GiDUmM0pgPcp-Nk3q9h09UzttTbIXSvlkkvy5pu1a4CCJBJb4U13s0zwztm8_fo0xyyVRcoeGi1bp64_Onn11ynzP4/s1600-h/Chatterbox+Falls+Trip+Nick+12-26-09+to+01-16-10+133.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 200px; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5427541318298307986" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfQ38BcE9CLF1Fia5Wnwa4SdrbEBZx_O3u8X6LkD3FZRP7OD0r2GiDUmM0pgPcp-Nk3q9h09UzttTbIXSvlkkvy5pu1a4CCJBJb4U13s0zwztm8_fo0xyyVRcoeGi1bp64_Onn11ynzP4/s200/Chatterbox+Falls+Trip+Nick+12-26-09+to+01-16-10+133.jpg" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAhD27pVxnIaWYZtVazns2ggxwkR6zo0ThN779EEjVkvXnJmQ7x9WABD0eGSc6Xo72nVrl2ehFzwv_f6JRbKUvuALrzeU3M40gFqcMnfOibPc9SGJaRvuBUz9XgVzDx8L0huURpMDybQk/s1600-h/Chatterbox+Falls+Trip+Nick+12-26-09+to+01-16-10+135.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 200px; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5427520590316703074" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAhD27pVxnIaWYZtVazns2ggxwkR6zo0ThN779EEjVkvXnJmQ7x9WABD0eGSc6Xo72nVrl2ehFzwv_f6JRbKUvuALrzeU3M40gFqcMnfOibPc9SGJaRvuBUz9XgVzDx8L0huURpMDybQk/s200/Chatterbox+Falls+Trip+Nick+12-26-09+to+01-16-10+135.jpg" /></a></div><div><strong><em><span style="color:#660000;">A couple of days in Nanimo and it was time to continue south. Early mornings in the Gulf Islands are awesome and the sunrise as we went thru Dodd Narrows can't be put into words. Ganges was our next stop and two more days of strong winds and rain and rain and wind. Another early departure to Friday Harbor to clear customs back into the United States. Beautiful weather which turned ugly again once we were in port. Wild Blue was on a time schedule and left early the next morning. The four of us stayed one more night, caught a movie and played backgammon. A very small weather window opened early in the morning and we hustled to get to Anacortes. It was a bumpy ride but we were glad we had made the decision to leave when we did. The winds were so strong by the time we reached Anacortes that we were glad we had help when arriving at the docks. I don't think we have ever had so many lines tied to our boat as we did over the next several days. It was hard to imagine what the seas were like when we were getting blown around in a protected harbor like we were. About 4pm the winds stopped and Freyja quit rocking and rolling. Left the next morning in blue sky and no wind. LaConnor for a lay over and Everett for two nights thru the locks and we are back to Seattle. </span></em></strong><br /></div><div><strong><span style="color:#990000;">This was a very unique trip for us. Bitter sweet because Grandma Nora passed away while we were gone and we chose to continue the adventure and miss the funeral. She was okay with that decision and she would have told us to "press on". We made very special friends in Ron & Bonny and Pat & Alex. They are awesome people and their help, advise and skills were a welcome part of the adventure. Our trip was about 500 nautical miles and 80 traveling hours. We are proud of ourselves for following our dream, sucking it up and enjoying life. However, I do think we held our own on the ping pong games. Josh, Emily, Teal and Shiela were so knowledgable about the whales, birds, fish and marine life - and it was a great learning experience to spend time with them. We have been busy at the One Horse this year however it was not quite as hectic as some other years. With the Evergreen Motel not being our responsibility it gave us the opportunity to work together again - which we both enjoy. Summer seemed to go by quickly and without much drama. Our first trip thru "the ditch" to LaConnor was pretty stressful. Just how much water is there under this big boat? At one point we actually turned around and went back to Cornet Bay to re-group. It was wonderful to see our good winter friends but sad to tell them we would not be open in the winter anymore.<br /></div>We arrived back on Freyja on March 5th with high hopes of heading out to sea. We were going to spend a day making sure everything was on the up and up as some work had been done on the boat while we were gone. Friday the 6th. We hired a training Captain to spend a day or so with us but somewhere during training things went astray and we had an electrical meltdown. Smoke--I mean SMOKE was coming out from under the helm and out of the portugese bridge. VERY SCARY !! Long story short...it had to do with an unfused battery, no shore power, inverter, etc etc. Problem solved but we did lose some of our electronics and had to have new wiring put into place. <img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316860680732462354" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkOHqGE09aYKKOzpFmwKxXN2B2FKUG054t94TDM-jfV_8_rkomazlux3FrW20Bf7m2CyVGzuhrzr82R97eSL8GcYW6tML0aP8-_T0WhSRKT428nRuidJw2UmTAmnI46vkgzPAMe2LZlvE/s400/3-24-09+020.jpg" /><br />We spent the next week repairing and replacing and headed out to sea on March 11, 2009. We are actually in Lake Union which is a fresh water lake in Seattle. We have to go thru the locks to get to Puget Sound. They have two locks - one for the really big boats and one for smaller boats. The current thru the pass gets as high as 14 knots - way too dangerous for newbies.<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316872922309392994" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcwHL-j-Btlv234QsKBmfbM7hVyObBoZHs8LZ_1_7KC4bXA_d4ZJg2wP5yygrmg-bParQtx9A3RH_i_QbnRdwraV1tIYWhZF47wQTtccjsDl1WI5g4RNarNce9_sVtTK8uWV9HdwDzUSA/s400/3-24-09+039.jpg" />Thru Deception Pass and headed for Canada. Crossed the shipping channel thru Rosario Strait, then thru Lopez Pass, Spencer Spit, followed Harvey Channel between Orcas Island and Shaw Island and headed for Pole Pass (which is about the size of a pole). <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_4BlAGVPS7Lc5vL1yFLKz8Kdnk7UAUzbOXRLj0ItzynsPTle_0PRWpKV60zsLHfL3JixjyWVIze1rMvs__gmyG9ytfEYzM9uVUKpw3nPv6IY4V5AzM0waxbd1ok3Vp1lobpWw3RMZfBI/s1600-h/3-24-09+045.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 427px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316883441686142466" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_4BlAGVPS7Lc5vL1yFLKz8Kdnk7UAUzbOXRLj0ItzynsPTle_0PRWpKV60zsLHfL3JixjyWVIze1rMvs__gmyG9ytfEYzM9uVUKpw3nPv6IY4V5AzM0waxbd1ok3Vp1lobpWw3RMZfBI/s400/3-24-09+045.jpg" /></a> Next adventure - South of Jones Island and down Spieden Channel , Miners Channel to the West side of Sidney Spit. We had a little time before we had to clear customs so we decided to try our hand at anchoring. We parked ourselves on the West Side of Sidney Spit and let the anchor go. Wow....it went really fast-came off the gypsy-and fell into the sea. 450 feet of chain in 45 feet of water. Luckly we have a electric windlass or we would still be there pulling chain. Decided we should head to Sidney and clear customs into Canada before we attempted to try anything else. What a piece of cake clearing customs was. Decided that learning to anchor should be a priority, we headed to South Pender Island and anchored in Poet's Cove.<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316891295900481730" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8IkmwET94r-X3Kh-dOJAmcTCY4V71QI6PjjQaNk_R6S6cG_hR2JGa7RwvkZTg3RBXZuYIGCagyBNYCcZR85A3tTYIIwi6T62bFd_2r42wHytEsWgzzQkiLvHZzMHLUlfLZ64kP8xXfgc/s400/3-24-09+053.jpg" /></p><br /><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLTShpPzk7Nk2E3LKa-ZqQZD0tFUooLj9_lawHnVt4Ga0iL4fbarDkCu6QJMckMPXgkey7Xg2ikkBvH1GhbxXiKoKWNXPdi6fMCcEizJvzvlLBKCG57vOXPzRycEmAcTgW6wSuGZxabRA/s1600-h/3-24-09+050.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 400px; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316901678528088370" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLTShpPzk7Nk2E3LKa-ZqQZD0tFUooLj9_lawHnVt4Ga0iL4fbarDkCu6QJMckMPXgkey7Xg2ikkBvH1GhbxXiKoKWNXPdi6fMCcEizJvzvlLBKCG57vOXPzRycEmAcTgW6wSuGZxabRA/s400/3-24-09+050.jpg" /></a></p><p>The Resort at Poet's Cove looks like a fun place to stay-but we have a boat-its funner!</p>~ Nick ~ Becky ~http://www.blogger.com/profile/16256332674620416125noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1217059312754436448.post-64677530111985690052009-01-18T11:32:00.000-08:002009-08-31T15:14:19.855-07:00<div align="center"><a href="http://newimages.yachtworld.com/1/8/6/4/9/1864920_1_thumb.jpg?1205532246000"></a><div align="center"><br /><br /></div><div align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRfYTZn_PlDTIZitiyLEZXdO2XccXZAy0JV1id1b8ge5KqrT2aVouFp_OKTxqGCz93f6wWqL2lZpPit5PmppcS3er1JGWLeYLb4fGtCeaNj1cBMEWySvU6iT0S7cES9M_dX8WerD2BgR4/s1600-h/New+Year+09+014.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292720290847575074" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRfYTZn_PlDTIZitiyLEZXdO2XccXZAy0JV1id1b8ge5KqrT2aVouFp_OKTxqGCz93f6wWqL2lZpPit5PmppcS3er1JGWLeYLb4fGtCeaNj1cBMEWySvU6iT0S7cES9M_dX8WerD2BgR4/s320/New+Year+09+014.jpg" /></a>December 12, 2008. Here we are the new owners of Freyja. She is located in Lake Union Seattle Washington. She is a 43 foot Selene Ocean Trawler.</div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><br /><div align="center">After four years of searching there she was at the dock saying</div><div align="center">"Pick Me Pick Me"</div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div align="center"><br /></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center">We moved aboard after a quick trip to West Yellowstone to pick up clean undees and a few odds and ends. And the new adventure begins. We hired Captain Bob to help us get Freyja out of the "parking lot" and back in to her spot. If you don't think that was exciting!! We practiced during the next few days and felt very proud of ourselves ~ we could now dock Freyja with only a minimal amount of panic. She was hauled from the water during the survey so we could see her bare bottom. Freyja is not slim and trim. She weighs in at 60,000 lbs with a draft of 5.7 feet. Although she is called a 43 she is 48 feet overall. </div><div align="center">She holds 860 gallons of diesel, 250 gallons of water and is powered by a 220 John Deere.<br /><br />Christmas Eve was spent watching the 75 or so decorated boats on Lake Union float around and listening to a choir on one of the large boats sing christmas carols. </div><div align="center">It brought a new meaning to "it came upon a midnight clear".<br /><br />The week between Christmas and New Year was full of<br />Cold Weather, Snow and Learning Obsticles<br />running out of power<br />running out of water<br />overflowing the holding tanks<br />and just a general<br />"WOW ~ I didn't know it did that".<br /><br /></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center">Life on the water is over for the time being. We arrived back in West Yellowstone on January 3rd where it was a balmy -27 and all was well-we thought. The hot tub was 120 degrees, we were out of propane and there was snow every where. Life is somewhat back to "normal" for now and we are counting the days before we head back to Freyja.</div>~ Nick ~ Becky ~http://www.blogger.com/profile/16256332674620416125noreply@blogger.com2
